About Certified Crane Inspections
National Hoisting Authority (NHA) is owned and operated by Rick Staples. Rick grew up in an Excavation / Construction family business. Starting at 8 years old, Rick was running a Dynahoe 190 and a 955 shovel dozer. Progressing from there, Rick ran almost anything he could: Loaders, Excavators, Cranes, End Dumps and Overhead Cranes in the shop.
In 2001, Rick dedicated himself to crane safety in order to help others avoid accidents. Crane Inspections are a passion for Rick and it was so easy for him to see the direct results that good inspections could have on a company.
In 2008, Rick and his company, R. Spec Certifications, LLC, was hired by NYC Dept of Buildings after the horrible tower crane collapses that killed nine people. Rick worked with the city for over a year inspecting over 400 cranes, designing an inspection program and training city inspectors.
Rick then realized he had a knack and passion for training and launched National Hoisting Authority (NHA). Since then, NHA has trained thousands of people using personal classroom training and the online system Rick created: EducatedOperator.com.
Rick is also an approved provider of continuing education for Massachusetts Hoisting Licenses and has test prep classes to help the future operators get licensed, stay safe and succeed. Rick loves this work and thinks that being a crane inspector is a great calling for anyone with a focused attention to detail that cares about keeping people safe.
